"Cry for You", too known as "Cry for You (Yous'll Never See Me Again)" on Hard2Beat,[i] is a vocal past Swedish singer Petra Marklund, performing as September. The dance-popular track spent three weeks at the elevation spot of Billboard'south Hot Trip the light fantastic toe Airplay Nautical chart in May 2007.[2] In the United states of america, information technology is the second unmarried from September'south album September, succeeding "Satellites" (a number viii striking on the Dance Airplay chart), while overseas information technology is her fifth single release from her 2nd studio album In Orbit, post-obit "It Doesn't Matter". Information technology is too a single from various compilation albums released in Europe.

The unmarried was a huge success in Sweden as well as the rest of Europe, and tin be considered her biggest striking yet, together with "Satellites". In her homeland of Sweden, "Cry for You" peaked at the number vi position on the Swedish Top 60 Singles Chart for two weeks in a row. It remained on the singles chart in Sweden for 17 non-consecutive weeks.

As of November 2010, "Weep for You" has been certified Gilt in the The states for sales of over 500,000 copies, making September the beginning Swedish singer to receive a Gold certification in the United States since Ace of Base's 1998 hit "Cruel Summer".

In tardily 2018, most 12 years after its release, the song was turned into a meme on Twitter, thanks to its "you'll never see me again" lyrics.[3]

Limerick and release [edit]

Before the worldwide release in 2007, September had originally recorded the song for her studio anthology In Orbit (2005). However, in many compilations September has released, the vocal has appeared on her compilations including September, Dancing in Orbit, Gold and Cry for You lot - The Album. According to September, she explained the reason why she wanted to release it worldwide, by proverb "The vocal was and so stiff by itself. And I've been there and it feels similar the fans are starved of trip the light fantastic music. Simply now dance music is coming back again, and the world is getting smaller and smaller because of the internet – that now sometimes you lot don't fifty-fifty have to do much promotion, although obviously it is still very of import. But I think that a striking song will always find a manner."[4]

In an interview with Digital Spy, they asked nearly the background of the song, when she replied:[4]

"Information technology's virtually when yous're done with human relationship. A lot of people write to me and say 'It's actually emotional and I feel then much for the song because my boyfriend la la la', which is really squeamish for me, even though I didn't write the lyrics. I've had a lot of experiences similar that so that's what gives me the nerve to sing information technology."

The song features a trip the light fantastic toe-pop,[v] Europop[six] [7] and house[8] sound and has been compared to Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy" and its sampled counterpart, "Tell Me Why" past Supermode, although possible similarities have been alleged unintended.[9]

Critical reception [edit]

Popjustice said the song is a "massive balls-out club anthem and we remember it works rather well."[11] Ben Norman from Near.com called the song the "All-time Trip the light fantastic Crossover Track", while saying "Robbins [Entertainment] has since made peace with me by bankroll and promoting Swedish singer September and this Europop confection. Good job guys!."[12]

AllMusic had rated the song iii-and-a-half-stars out of five stars.[thirteen] Grand. Ross Hoffman, too from AllMusic, had highlighted the vocal as an album standout, and said "'Cry [for You]' is the obvious standout, managing to conjure both sophistication and a surprising degree of emotion from its fairly pedestrian frothy electro-popular system and polished just powerful song turn."[14] However, he also added "'Cry for You' is a potent enough track (though fairly faceless too, in its fashion) [...]." PopBytes.com gave information technology a positive review, saying it's "total pop dance fluff merely highly enjoyable."[15]
